Career Opportunity – Water Treatment & Distribution Operator

The Smoky River Regional Water Management Commission (SRRWMC), located in the Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130, Office and Water Treatment Plant located in the Town of Falher, is seeking a motivated individual who is looking for a life long, rewarding career providing an essential service.

SRRWMC is looking for a Utility Operator who holds Level II Certification in Water Treatment, Level II in Water Distribution, Level I in Wastewater Treatment, and Level I in Wastewater Collection. Having the required certification will be a huge asset, however training up to the required certification would be provided to the right individual. A grade twelve diploma or equivalency, valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor a Level II Water Treatment Plant, adhering to our approval as issued by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas.
  • Operate and monitor Pump Stations, Lift Stations, booster stations, and Distribution Systems within the Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130. Seven different approval numbers to adhere to.
  • Operate and maintain River Intake structure and pumphouse including recording river flows and utilize levels to determine if sufficient flow is available for pumping. Operate and maintain vertical turbine pumps associated to this pumphouse.
  • Operate and maintain two raw water reservoirs equipped with aeration and requires algae control in summer months.
  • Monitor equipment and processes, keeping within required parameters and making control adjustments to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
  • Troubleshooting to diagnose any issues and the ability to see any changes in trends and to adjust accordingly.
  • Positive attitude representing the SRRWMC and portray respect towards the public and the Company.
  • Willing to travel for continuing education, training and courses related to the industry as required to maintain certification in the four required disciplines.
  • Operate and maintain two different Lift Stations and Lagoon Systems.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and reliant operation of all water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word, with the ability to generate reports and submit to required government departments and other organizations as required.
  • Individual must be able to work alone and be 24-hour on-call on a rotational basis.
